Bigwé

Born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Bigwé creates from a place of friction: African, European, queer, and male. His work draws on the Afro-diasporic music that shaped his childhood—pop, bikutsi, zouk, and Y2K R&B—fusing them to craft new sounds.

Bigwé embraces the fluidity of identities and their associated stereotypes as territories of creation and transformation, generating scenarios where complexity, desire, contradiction, performativity, spirituality, and power are the norm.

It is a hybrid musical project that fuses zouk, bikutsi, jazz, and pop, among other world music genres. It is a contemporary, diasporic cultural offering that defies categorization. A unique blend of sound and identity.

Discover Biwgé

Bigwé identifies as a multitude embracing complexity and transforming it into creative material. This hybrid identity translates directly into his music, where the blend of genres is a natural reflection of his life. Fluidity is his natural state; he moves between sounds and languages with intention.

At the heart of the project lies a deep desire to live authentically, without imposed limits. It is a desire for the freedom to experiment, to transform, and to avoid being defined once and for all and a wish to share that same sense of expansion with the audience. It seeks to make complexity the norm rather than the exception.
