MAMI WATA emerged from Barcelona’s vibrant African music scene (Alma Afrobeat Ensemble, Nakany Kanté, Yacine & The Oriental Grooves, Kwame Afrovibes), fusing Afrobeat, jazz, urban music, and West African rhythms into a unique sound.
The project began in 2016 with the BCN AFROBEAT SESSIONS, a monthly Afrobeat concert series where artists such as Nakany Kanté, Desiree Diouf, and Indee Styla shared the stage with the band. This journey led them to perform at the BAM Festival 2019.
After a period of composition and production, MAMI WATA returns in 2025 with the energy and originality that defines their music.
